ATONEMENT
ADOPTION OR SONSHIP
is the way God brings us into His universal family.
"…to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the authority to become children of God." John 1:12
As an act of His grace He brings them into membership of His redeemed family. Galatians 4:5-7.
This gives them the position or standing which they do not have by any natural right, and is known as adoption or sonship. Galatians 3:26 Ephesians 1:5,6 Romans 8:15-21 Hebrews 2:12,13
It carries with it, awesome privileges and responsibilities. Matthew 5:9,16,45,48 Matthew 12:50 1 John 3:1-3 Ephesians 5:1 Hebrews 12:5-11.
While we cannot have one without the other, adoption should be distinguished from the new birth.
Adoption is brought into effect by the authority of God on the throne in heaven, while the new birth takes place within us here.
