This is a translation of the Greek word ekklesia meaning called out ones. This word can mean simply an assembly of people Acts 19:32,42 or a local congregation of believers 1 Corinthians 1:2, or the whole company of believers throughout all ages Ephesians 1:22,23.
It never means a physical building or a particular denomination, and should not be confused with the traditional meaning of the English word "church."
